Teropha besti
Teropha beetles are a large ground beetle, approximately 35 - 40 mm long and 10 - 12 mm wide. They have a metallic black coloured body with prominent striations on the wing covers. The adults are flightless and prefer low open woodlands and open forests. They have a characteristic flattened 'hot-water-bottle'- shaped body and large bulging eyes on the sides of the head. Like other carabid beetles, teropha beetles are generalist predators, attacking a range of soft-bodied pests.
