Labidura truncata
The common brown earwig is reddish-brown in colour with straw coloured markings, and a darker abdomen and pincers. Adults are approximately 35 mm long and have a distinctive orange triangle behind the head on the elytra (wing case). The common brown earwig is solitary and generally not observed congregating in large numbers like European earwigs. Nymphs look similar to adults, except they are smaller and lack wings, and are usually paler in colour. They are predatory, attacking soft-bodied insects and mites, including the lucerne flea, redlegged earth mites and pest caterpillars.
