Grey field slug

The grey field slug is predominantly found in the high rainfall zones of southern Australia. They attack all crops and pastures, however emerging canola seedlings are particularly susceptible and may be eaten to ground level. The grey field slug grows to 50 mm in length and is light grey to fawn in colour with dark brown mottled markings. They secrete milky-white mucus when disturbed, and will reproduce at any time of the year if conditions are suitable. Grey field slugs are mainly active on the soil surface, whereas many other species tend to burrow beneath the soil and attack germinating seed.
