White Italian snail

Adult snails are up to 30 mm in diameter and have a white shell with broken brown bands in the line of the spiral. They feed on organic matter and green plant material of pastures and emerging crops, and can also contaminate grain at harvest. With the onset of warm weather snails go into a resting state (aestivation), after they have ascended vertical surfaces such as shrubs or cereal plants. Most snails die during aestivation from summer exposure. The ones that do survive can be particularly damaging to crops and emerging pastures the next season. They become active following late-summer/autumn rainfall and can eat up to three times their weight daily.
