Researcher, John Roberts (The University of Melbourne), is conducting a research project aimed at better understanding chemical control issues in pest mites across south-eastern Australia. This includes building on our knowledge of insecticide resistance in the redlegged earth mite. For this project, John is looking to test mites from areas throughout Victoria and southern New South Wales for resistance to various insecticides. This work will hopefully identify areas at risk and provide early detection of resistance in Victoria and New South Wales. To assist in targeting areas for screening, John is seeking assistance from agronomists and farmers to report any control difficulties/failures associated with earth mites this season.
All reports will be kept confidential and can be made directly to John on (03) 8344 2519 or email j.roberts3@pgrad.unimelb.edu.au, or to Paul Umina on (03) 9329 8817 or email pumina@unimelb.edu.au.
